Moodle (modular object-oriented dynamic learning environments) is one of the most widely used online learning environments globally and one of the most commonly used Learning Management Systems. No two Moodle systems are the same: each has its own pedagogical culture and user community. There are several academic studies on the system's functioning, but these mainly focus on the organization and management of education. Few studies were found that would analyze the pedagogical essence of the system (i.e., course design and teaching-methodological functionality). Moodle technology is also suitable for modern methodological solutions such as building an adaptive learning environment. It is surprising how little research exists on the teaching and learning methodology of a system designed precisely for teaching and learning. Moodle is a popular online learning environment and is, therefore, surrounded by a large professional community. Over the past decades, several books and courses have been published to help users in effective development. This paper aims to provide an overview of the primary research regarding Moodle-related educational methodology, analyzes the series of tutorials written for Moodle development, and briefly reviews the official Moodle online courses.
